August 2026 Chicago Events at a Glance
August in Chicago is peak season. The lakefront is full, the festivals are stacked back to back, and every one of our core neighborhoods has something worth putting on the calendar. Here’s what’s actually worth your time this month, organized by neighborhood so you can plan your weekends.
Lincoln Park
Race Judicata 5K
Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026. Runner start 6:30 p.m. Start/finish is 1746 N. Stockton Drive in Lincoln Park; the course runs north toward Diversey Harbor and back. Current individual registration is $45 as of Aug. 7.
Chicago Air and Water Show
Aug. 15–16, rehearsal Aug. 14, free. North Avenue Beach is the center of activity; viewing extends roughly Fullerton to Oak Street. Current published show time is 10:30 a.m.–3 p.m.
Art on Clark
Saturday, Aug. 22, 11 a.m.–3 p.m., outside Target at 2650 N. Clark. Free.
A live sidewalk-chalk art activation. Good for a Saturday morning walk.
Old Town
Aug. 7–9 at Midwest Buddhist Temple, 435 W. Menomonee St. Organizers request a $5 donation for guests 12+.
A long-running cultural festival with food, performances, and crafts. Worth checking out if you haven’t been.
Gold Coast
Walking Tour: Glitterati on the Gold Coast
Saturday, August 22.
Location: Meets in the Gold Coast, exact meeting point provided upon registration.
Cost: Ticketed, hosted by the Chicago History Museum.
A single-date historical walking tour through the Gold Coast’s mansion district. If you love neighborhood history the way I do, this is worth the ticket.
River North
Impressions of a City: Drawings by Marvin Young
Through August 23.
Location: Intuit Art Museum, 756 N Milwaukee Ave.
Cost: General admission applies. Check site for current pricing.
A limited-run exhibit. If you haven’t been to Intuit, this is a good reason to finally go before it closes.
The Notebook and The Outsiders
Both run August 4 to 16.
Location: Broadway in Chicago venues, downtown near River North.
Cost: Ticketed, pricing varies by seat and date.
Two limited-engagement touring productions overlapping the same two weeks. If you want to catch a show this month, this is your window.
Bucktown and Wicker Park
Meet Me on Milwaukee
Sunday, August 30, 10am to 6pm.
Location: Milwaukee Avenue, closed to vehicle traffic from North/Damen to Ashland.
Cost: Free.
This car-free street event is returning after time off. Good family activity, good excuse to walk the strip without dodging traffic.
Bucktown Arts Fest
August 29 and 30, 11am to 7pm.
Location: At and around Holstein Park, 2200 N Oakley Ave.
Cost: Suggested donation at entry.
A staple of the neighborhood’s late-summer calendar. Local art, live music, a strong weekend closer for August.
Lakeview
Northalsted Market Days
August 7 to 9.
Location: Halsted Street from Belmont to Addison.
Cost: Free.
One of the city’s biggest street festivals. If you’ve never been, plan for crowds and go anyway.
Lakeview Taco Fest
August 21 to 23.
Location: Southport Corridor.
Cost: Free to attend, food and drink priced separately.
Food, music, a genuinely fun neighborhood weekend.
North Center
Fretboard Summit
Thursday, August 20.
Location: Old Town School of Folk Music, 4544 N Lincoln Ave.
Cost: Ticketed, pricing on venue site.
A one-time gathering for guitar enthusiasts and builders. If you’re into music or know someone who is, this is a unique addition to the calendar this year.
