Would you be surprised to know that about half of the open houses on the Near North Side this weekend have been on the market for six weeks or longer, while in Lincoln Park and Lakeview, half were listed within the past week?
Quick answer: There are 200 open houses in Chicago this weekend, Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, 2026, across Bucktown, Wicker Park, Logan Square, Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Old Town, River North and the Gold Coast. My free Maureen’s Insider Picks guides list each one by day and start time.
Each week I make a printable guide for the neighborhoods I know best. This week I also looked at how long each home has been listed, because that number tells you a lot about what you are about to walk into. Here is what I found.
How many open houses are there in each Chicago neighborhood?
These counts are single-family homes and condos with a posted price. They leave out rentals and broker tours. A home that is open both days is counted on each day, but only once in the total.
| Neighborhood | Homes open | Saturday | Sunday | Typical days listed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bucktown, Wicker Park and Logan Square | 56 | 37 | 33 | 9 |
| Lincoln Park | 22 | 17 | 11 | 7 |
| Lakeview | 52 | 44 | 31 | 5 |
| Old Town, River North and Gold Coast | 70 | 31 | 47 | 43 |
| All four areas | 200 | 129 | 122 |
The last column is the median number of days the current listing has been on the market. Half of the homes in each area have been listed for fewer days than that number, and half for more. The numbers are rounded.
What days on market can tell you at an open house
When you walk into a home, it helps to know where it is in its story.
- Listed within the past week. This is the home’s first weekend in front of buyers. In Bucktown, Wicker Park and Logan Square, 25 of the 56 open houses are in this group. In Lincoln Park and Lakeview, it is 38 of 74.
- Listed for several weeks or months. The home has already had time to be seen. On the Near North Side, 27 of the 70 open houses have been listed for 60 days or more.
- Listed before, then listed again. Some homes were on the market earlier and came back. Across all four areas, 65 of the 200 homes show at least two more weeks of total time on the market than their current listing does.
None of these means a home is better or worse. A longer time on the market can come from price, condition, layout, the building, or simply the season. At the open house, a good question for the listing agent is, “What is the listing history, and has the price changed?”
What to know about each neighborhood this weekend
Bucktown, Wicker Park and Logan Square
There are 56 open houses in Bucktown and Wicker Park and the Logan Square edge, with 37 on Saturday and 33 on Sunday. This is the newest group of listings, with a typical home listed about nine days. If you like to see what is new before everyone else, this is a good area for your Saturday.
Lincoln Park
Lincoln Park has 22 open houses, 17 on Saturday and 11 on Sunday. The typical home has been listed about a week, so most of what you will see is fresh.
Lakeview
There are 52 open houses in Lakeview, including the Roscoe Village edge, and 44 of them are open on Saturday. The typical home has been listed about five days, the shortest of any area, so Saturday is the busy day here.
Old Town, River North and Gold Coast
The Near North Side has the most open houses, 70, and it is the only area where Sunday is busier than Saturday, with 47 on Sunday. It is also the area where homes have been listed the longest. The typical home has been listed about six weeks, and 22 homes in a single building on Lake Shore Drive are open on Sunday morning at 10 AM. You can read more about the Gold Coast and River North, and see my posts about Old Town. If you are looking at a condo, my page on buying into the building explains what to ask about the association.
A simple way to plan your weekend
- Pick one neighborhood for the day instead of crossing the city.
- Open the printable guide for that neighborhood and circle the homes that fit your budget and your bedroom count.
- Use the start times to build an order, and leave time to walk or drive between stops.
- Write down the days on market and ask about the listing history when you see a home.
- Plan about 20 to 30 minutes at each home.
If you are not planning to buy soon, an open house is still one of the best free ways to learn what different kinds of homes feel like and what different price ranges offer. When you are ready to take the next step, my page on buying a home in Chicago walks through how it works, and my Chicago real estate FAQ answers the questions I hear most.
Frequently asked questions
How many open houses are there in Chicago this weekend?
In the neighborhoods covered by Maureen’s Insider Picks guides, 200 homes are open on Saturday, October 24, Sunday, October 25, or both days: 56 in Bucktown, Wicker Park and Logan Square, 22 in Lincoln Park, 52 in Lakeview, and 70 in Old Town, River North and the Gold Coast.
What does days on market mean?
Days on market is the number of days a home has been listed for sale. A home that has been listed for a week is new to buyers. A home that has been listed for several months has had more time to be seen, and it is worth asking the listing agent why.
Does a longer time on the market mean a home is a bargain?
Not automatically. A home can sit for many reasons, including price, condition, layout, the building, or the season. The listing history and price history will tell you more than the number alone.
Do I need an appointment to go to an open house in Chicago?
No. You can walk into an open house without an appointment. If you would like help understanding what you see, Maureen Moran is happy to talk it through with you.
