October turns three of my favorite neighborhoods a little theatrical, each in its own way. Lincoln Park leans into its ghost stories, Wicker Park and Bucktown throw open their storefronts, and Roscoe Village turns Lincoln Avenue into one long block party. Here’s what’s actually worth planning around this month, neighborhood by neighborhood. No weekly filler, just the ones I’d tell a friend about.

Tuesday and Wednesday nights, through October 28: Haunted History Tours at Lincoln Park Zoo
7:00 to 8:15 p.m. and 8:30 to 9:45 p.m. · Lincoln Park Zoo, 2001 N. Clark St. · Ages 16+ · Ticketed
Chicago historian Adam Selzer leads evening walks through the zoo’s cemetery roots. Before it was a park, much of this land was Chicago’s City Cemetery, and not every grave was moved when the rest were relocated in the 1800s.
Local tip: walk past the Couch Tomb just behind the Chicago History Museum before your tour. It’s the last above-ground piece of the old cemetery.

Sunday, October 11: The 48th Bank of America Chicago Marathon
Starts and finishes in Grant Park · Free to watch
Street closures along the course shape the whole day, so it’s worth a look at the official course map before you plan brunch or a drive. The race runs through several neighborhoods, so wherever you’re standing, you’re part of the cheer zone.
